 GESTURE TRAINING PROGRAMME

After 9 years of testing and research with top scientists and vocal pedagogues, the EMBODIMA™ programme has come up with an entire dictionary of gestures that cover many of the demands of singing through accessing combinations of muscle movements that cannot be consciously activated.

These kinaesthetic motor images cover many aspects of vocal technique such as supporting intervals, maintaining pitch, resonance and flow, dynamics, phrasing, onsets, etc. and achieving the demands of different styles of singing from legato to coloratura. They can be used in technical training and/or applied directly to repertoire.

Each EMBODIMA™ image accesses key muscle coordination by activating visual, motor and sensory areas in the brain. These images are now incorporated into a book of gestures for teachers of singing. Embodima TM explores imagery in vocal training, imagination in performance, the muscles of singing, vocal neuroscience and how the brain responds to imagery.

Teacher Training Days
Learn, experience and embody motor imagery in a visual and physical way that can be immediately applied to the teaching and learning of singing.
We're very excited to announce that after a fascinating introductory training session we
have now set up specialised training days for teachers via University of Oxford's prestigious Faculty of Music and Holywell Music Room.
Due to Coronavirus pandemic, online training is now available in small groups of 6 with interactive learning and individual workshopping. Contact hours for this course will be 7.5 hours in 2.5 hourly tranches spread over 3 Sundays. There is a follow up Practice in Training session available on the 4th Sunday - a longer session (3+ hours) where trainees work together in groups and the last 10 images are taught. Training groups commence on 11 October 2020 and roll forwards. Please email Nicola via the Contact page to sign up.
There is also the option of a follow-up Day in Oxford (July 2021) when all graduates of Embodima school meet for extended workshopping, Forum and advanced image training.

We now have a number of graduates of the course who have interactive access and forum on a private FB page. We are about to commence the January Online Sessions, which are fully booked. There is one place left on the February Online Sessions, please email via contact page to make enquiries.

Each month the sessions are held on 4 consecutive Sunday mornings, opening at 9.45 (discussion) for a 10 am start.

There are many tools to free the imagination so that teachers are able to be more creative with their teaching, and learn a universal set of gestures that students will recognise and respond to immediately. Embodima is a highly efficient addition to the committed and enquiring vocal teacher's box of tools.
